the ghosts of
Old Greenhouse Road, Houston, Texas
by Fiona Broome and the Hollow Hill staff ©2005
Old Greenhouse Road is very close to Katy, Texas. It is in a very residential area, with
a few wooded areas and fields.
According to local legend, the ghost of an old woman is supposed to appear on the bridge if you turn off your
car lights as the road turns and then approach the bridge very slowly. We advise you in the strongest possible terms:
Do NOT do this. Not only is this illegal, but it is highly dangerous. The road makes a turn so that you cannot
see oncoming traffic as you approach the bridge.
We investigated this haunting at dusk. Frankly, it doesn't feel haunted there. I detected nothing anomalous
with the compass.
However, we do have a few odd digital photos from the area next to the bridge:
As you can see, there is one huge orb and at least one smaller one in back of the trees. This orb could
be over the bridge; there is no way to be certain. At that size and distance, the orb was at least ten feet tall,
and possibly larger.
(It's not a reflection from the street sign, because the
orb is in back of the trees; a reflection would be in front of the sign and in front of the trees.)
Standing at the same spot, I took another photo to the right of the previous shot:
I have lightened the picture digitally, so that you can see the many orbs in the photos.
The area around the bridge may be haunted. The "old woman" story is such a classic urban legend, I don't take
it seriously. And, the bridge doesn't feel haunted.
My film photos were generally unremarkable, except for one set of two pictures,
Possible ectoplasm at Old Greenhouse Road.
These pictures aren't normal, so there may be hauntings around this bridge. We don't intend to spend
more time there unless other researchers find additional reasons to investigate it.
If you research there, be very mindful of the traffic and poor visibility at that turn in the road. As far
as we're concerned, the risks aren't worth the potential for positive research results.
