In August 2005, we explored a couple of cemeteries near Houston, Texas.

The first is a public cemetery that we've visited before, but at the time we didn't realize that it closed at dusk. The cemetery has two entrances, and we've always driven in through the gate that wasn't posted.

This cemetery--which we will call "Cemetery #1"--is in a very rural setting, but (as we soon discovered) regularly patrolled by the police.

One of the most notable landmarks in this cemetery is a huge tree. It's not menacing, but it's also not just another tree. I'd describe it as compelling. Every time that I've visited this cemetery, day or night, I take pictures of it.

The photo above shows an odd blue light or mist that appeared in one of about 20 digital photos that I took at that tree in August 2005. None of my other photos of that tree show anything odd.

In fact, most of the 50 (or so) photos that I took there that night included more than minor orbs that were probably dust or reflected light.

About ten minutes after I took the odd photo above, the police arrived and explained that the cemetery is closed at night.

(With permission, we'd go back and try more photos another night. Several graves, including the marker shown near the top of this article, are supposed to be profoundly haunted.)

We left, and drove to a second cemetery. It is on private property, but we explored it with permission, and an escort who knew where the graves were. Ordinarily, people drive past this plot of land without realizing that grave markers are concealed behind shrubs and overgrown weeds.

(If you recognize it from our photos, remember that this is private land. Also, since the area is not maintained, it has massive spiderwebs--and poisonous spiders--and may be hazardous to explore.)

Generally, the markers in this cemetery are handmade from wood, cement, or other improvised materials.

From the start, I knew that this cemetery was profoundly haunted.
