the ghosts of
Alief Cemetery, Houston, Texas

by Fiona Broome and the Hollow Hill staff ©2005

Haunted Alief Cemetery sign, Houston, Texas Alief Cemetery (pronounced "A-leef") has a wide reputation for being haunted. We haven't had time to do much research, but the legend is: This pioneer cemetery was overlooked when an apartment complex was built on adjoining (and perhaps overlapping) property. As a result, the apartments are rumored to be haunted.

During our visit at dusk, we caught several orbs, some dramatically large, with our camera. (See photos below.)

Because of the fast-fading light, we did not check for EMF with a compass.

This is not a location where you should go ghost hunting alone. (We recommend never ghost hunting on your own, but for this location we recommend going with a group of four or more. Since posting this, several readers--one a former gang member--have warned us that no one should go ghost hunting there at night, even in a group.) Also, wear sturdy shoes or sneakers, even during daylight hours; the ground isn't treacherous, but it is uneven in spots.
