From a Feng Shui standpoint, the house is situated midway on
a steep hill in a densely populated area. Nothing opposes the apartment building, and no shars.
Low level of traffic, almost always
going downhill, giving the impression of a one-way street. This is not good for the
energy of the building.
We heard both loud arguments and boisterous conversations during the time we surveyed the
block. It seemed like an average working-class neighborhood, being improved steadily.
The front door to the apartment building is blocked and not used, with a sign redirecting people to the side entrance.
The side entrance is up several stairs with one iron railing loose and unable to support even light
pressure.
The apartment is on an upper floor, up a set of steep, dimly-lit wooden stairs. A red light
is at the top of the stairs.
Using Black Hat directions: The Money corner is entirely missing
from the apartment. The front door, which would lead to the missing money area, is not used
and is currently blocked by a sofa. This blocks financial well-being, but also makes it difficult
to see what's going wrong.
The bathroom is in the Helpful People area, with no air outlet and the shadows of
dead insects in the overhead lighting panel. Plumbing seems to work well. With the door propped
open and the toilet lid kept closed, the negative aspects of this placement can be improved.
The kitchen is in the Creativity area, and the person
at the stove will have his/her back to those who may enter. Sink is in a pantry area, tucked in
back of the bathroom. Ideally, this entire part of the apartment should be renovated.
Provocative photos of women in scanty underwear appeared throughout the apartment, and "men's magazines" were tucked
slightly out of view, the only items on the table in the apartment's Relationships area.
Fresh flowers or
a plant on the table would help, regardless of the future of this couple.
Although the couple share the master bedroom in the Family/Stability area, the woman
also has her own bedroom, in the Knowledge area. She is a student so this is one of the few
obvious assets to the apartment as it is now.
However, in her bedroom's money corner, a dark,
overcrowded and rather unpleasant closet does not support her financial goals.
The apartment walls are generally dark colors and the rooms are small, reducing the light and sense of
space. Due to past renovations, several windows open to walls or to enclosed areas, reducing the air
flow in the apartment.
Most significantly, the windows in the Success/Fame area open to
a dark, fully-enclosed space that was once a porch. Since that is a permanent renovation,
I would place full-spectrum lights outside the living room windows, giving the illusion
of the outdoors, and improving the sense of light and space in the room.
The building has been owned and inhabited by the same family for several generations, with
an average history in terms of success and good relationships.
Analysis: So much work is necessary to give this apartment light, plus free-flowing air, and
balance, it seems pointless to make suggestions. Visual cues suggest that this
will be a temporary residence for one or both of the partners. The blocked/missing Money and Success
areas signal financial obstacles as well.
In other circumstances, light colored walls and a cure for the
missing Money area would be at the top of our list.
In this situation, we recommended that the tenants move to another apartment.
