Should we link to your website?
We're always interested in new ghost-related websites that offer original and unique information. If you're
offering fresh ghost locations, genuine first-person stories, or intriguing photos, we'd like to link to you,
even if your site is small.
Let us know the URL of your site,
where your link to Hollow Hill appears, and a brief (10 words, max) description of your site.
We review all websites before adding links to our pages, and try to do this in a timely manner.
If we don't add your site within a couple of weeks, it's likely that no one has had time
to update the links yet. During "ghost season" (mid-August through mid-November)
or immediately after a sensational movie or TV show, it can
take us a month or two (sometimes longer) to have enough time to review your website.
Generally, we don't
reply to link emails, but simply link to the sites that we like. If yours is a fresh, well-written, original
website that's more informative than commercial, we'll probably link to it.
How not to get listed on our links pages:
We generally don't link to extremely commercial sites.
If there are many obvious spelling errors on your main page and the content isn't original, we probably won't link
to you.
If you warn people that all of your "haunted locations" are off-limits to visitors, we probably won't link
to you. However, if your site is mostly a "how-to" site
to educate ghost hunters in research techniques, it's not necessary to provide public, haunted locations, as well.
If you've "borrowed" material from our website without crediting us for the information,
don't ask us to link to you. Lately, many websites have been using our material and changing only
a few words here & there. We're not fooled.
Please do not insist on being included among our "favorites," because--when we say "favorites"--we
mean only those that are actually our favorites. Most sites will be linked on
our "reciprocal links" webpage.
Please don't ask us to link to websites that have no connection with ghosts, ghostly locations,
or the paranormal. We don't link to
football sites, dating sites, MLM sites, and so on.
If your pages are extremely graphic-intensive, especially with copied clipart,
we may not link to them. A blinking, bouncing ghostly cursor will make us
leave your website in a hurry. Ditto loud music, without an off button.
If it takes us more than one click from your homepage (index.html) to find original content at your
site, we probably won't link to you.
If, from your opening page, you claim that obvious double-exposures (etc.) are "real" ghost photos,
we won't link
to you.
If most of your opening page is an ad for your products or services, without interesting non-ad
content, we won't link to you.
Most importantly, please do not write to us saying, "Let me know when you've linked to my site and then I'll link to yours."
If you don't feel that our website is worth linking to, don't link to it.
Also, we're already highly ranked
at Google, etc. So, in search engine terms, you're more likely to benefit from a link here, than we are from
a link at your website. Don't act as if you're doing us a huge favor by linking to us, and don't send us multiple
angry emails if we haven't linked to your site a week later.
Did that sound cranky enough?
I just spent two days going through the most recent link emails. 90% of them were
copycat websites that hadn't been updated in months. Many had broken graphics on the main (index.html) webpage. Two of
them had copied most of their pages from HollowHill.com. And, I still have over a hundred link emails to read.
We really are interested in fresh, interesting ghost websites, whether or not you're a professional, and
whether or not you have great HTML skills.
But, it's frustrating to visit site after site that offers nothing new, interesting, or original.
And, it's annoying to read--three emails
later--crude language from someone who's angry because we didn't link to their website within a week.
This has happened
over & over again; it's rude, it wastes our time, and--in most cases--these websites are
designed to be more sensational than factual.
If you're wondering why it takes so long to link to quality sites, it's because 90% of our link research
leads us to disappointing websites that stall our browser with an overload of animated, ghost-themed clipart.
