Ghost reports in the news [7 stories]

Ghost reports are slim during the busiest winter holidays, but a few stories are notable:

26 Dec 06: Guide to Ghostly Goings-on in the Peak District - Yorkshire Post Today (UK)

A new guide, The Bloody Peak, includes haunted hotels, ghostly apparitions and eerie castles of Derbyshire. When available, it'll be online at the Peak Experience.

26 Dec: Philadelphia, more than just cheesesteaks - Resident Publications (USA)

Article includes reminder that Eastern State Penitentiary, 22nd Street and Fairmount Avenue, is reportedly haunted and was site of recent 'Ghost Hunters' show. Open to tours.

26 Dec: Bah, humbug - Scrooge had brain disease - The Australian

Dr. Robert Chance Algar, a California neurologist, has now debunked Charles Dickens' tale, A Christmas Carol. He's diagnosed Scrooge's problem; it wasn't ghosts, it was Lewy body dementia (LBD).

26 Dec: Queen of seas reigns no longer - Baltimore Sun, MD (USA)

Luxury liner Queen Mary's future isn't clear; the owner of the lease to operate the ship filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year. A January 2007 three-day 'paranormal retreat' is scheduled on board the ship.

25 Dec: Paranormal research at Md. mansion - Delaware Online, the News Journal (USA)

Haunted Teackle Mansion in Princess Anne, MD is investigated for evidence of ghosts.

24 Dec: Grand Ole Opportunity - Lexington-Herald Leader, KY (USA)

Nashville's popular tours include a Haunted Tavern Tour, visiting haunted bars to hear stories about their ghosts and the neighbors' haunts, too.

3 Dec: McDonough's ghostly past now a tourism pitch - Atlanta Journal-Constitution, GA (USA)

McDonough's ghosts--including a Victorian lady at the cemetery and a man at Truman's Restaurant--are attracting attention.

Everything except Marley's ghost

We're catching up with ghost stories in the news, including some headlines that appeared 'spirited away' during the recent blog upgrade.

Most current "ghost" tales in the news are about Dickens' classic, A Christmas Carol. That said, Midwinter (December 22nd) is one of eight seasonal times when ghosts may be especially active. We usually see a surge of late reports as soon as the holiday merriment winds down.

17 Dec: Ghost Hunt of York - DVD - UK press release
Descritpion of new DVD, Ghost Hunt of York, including descriptions of several ghosts that haunt York, England. (We've added that to our website since it relates to our upcoming ghost tour to the UK.)

13 Dec: Channelling sceptic thought - The Australian

Admin: Some lost blog posts

In recent weeks, Blogger--which we use for this blog--has been upgrading. We're participating in the beta of the new design, and it appears that several recent posts were lost or never appeared.

At the moment, all of our November entries are missing. We hope that they return, but--typical of many beta tests & upgrades--they may be gone.
